For the professional installation of the appropriate rail fastening in each case, some important points must be considered, especially:

• What type of substrate?
• How high is the load?
• Avoid incorrect drilling!
• Observe the correct distance!

Before starting the installation, the craftsmen must make sure about the type of substrate. Masonry or concrete? Where is the reinforcement located? Because: If the drill is simply set in place and then hits iron after a few millimeters, for example, it won’t go any further. The dowel cannot be placed as originally planned. Tip for professional rail fastening: Use locating equipment to locate the reinforcing steel and plan your fastenings accordingly.

If the drill hole is set in the wrong place, the distances between the dowels (center distance) or to the edge (edge distance) calculated by the architect or structural engineer will no longer be observed. This can have serious consequences; in the worst case, the structural analysis is impaired. Tip: In the event of incorrect drilling, you must stop the drilling immediately and inform your structural engineer to obtain details of a new hole. The new borehole must then be set at 2x the depth of the faulty borehole. After that, the faulty hole is cleaned and filled with composite mortar.

If the anchor plate of the railing is placed too close to the edge or the distances between the railing posts are too small or too large, safety is no longer guaranteed. The railing will then no longer provide optimum support. Tip: The minimum distance to the edge and between the posts must be maintained in any case. It is calculated before work begins. A preliminary design with the actions of the tensile or shear force and the bending moment should be prepared by the designer. The verification is fulfilled if the resistance is greater than the action.
